*About Author Identifiers

New author identifier toggle in the sidebar search

By default, author values are grouped by their display name, which can result in the aggregation of scholarly works from different authors with the same name. Enabling author identifiers uses the identifiers available in our data sources to group authors, which can help disambiguate different authors with the same name. The author identifiers used currently include Microsoft Academic, and ORCID identifiers if they are available in data from CrossRef or PubMed.

N.B. Author disambiguation algorithms can incorrectly assign more than one identifier for the same person. In this case, you may wish to disable this feature to match purely on name alone, or select the different identifiers belonging to an individual author.

Additional minor changes:

  • Improved UX and aggregations for facet grouping chart feature
  • Autosuggest fields on the Structured Search page now allow multi-select by holding "CTRL/CMD" (Control/Command)
  • Created separate sub-tabs for the Lens Scholarly API, PatSeq Bulk Download and Lens Patents API (Coming Soon!) in the API & Data facility
  • Improvements to the Lens Scholarly API request form
  • Created embeddable animated attribution badge (see Terms of Use for attribution badge requirements)
  • Added animated logo graphics

Fixes:

  • Fixed overlapping primary facet labels for grouped bar charts
  • Fixed tri-state flag check-boxes
  • Fixed Lookup ID smart search
  • Fixed Biological Organisms analysis widget
  • Fixed display of external identifiers in the results list view when analysis tab is hidden

API & Data Improvements:

  • Updated Scholarly API to version 1.1 adding the ability to search within a scholarly collection (user feedback) and bug fixes. See the API documentation for more details.
  • Updated the CPC and IPC classification schemas to the latest versions

Interested in helping us improve?

We are grateful to all those who took our survey and sent us comments and/or feedback on how to improve the public scholarly API. If you or your library have not seen it yet, please check it out. Upon completing your request for the scholarly API, please make sure to provide your full name, your organization address (official email address as well please), and a clear description of the intended use of the scholarly data. In version 1.1, we describe several supported query types, however, the listed examples may still not cover all scenarios that you envision. If there are other useful scenarios to you, please let us know and we will continue to update the documentation and functionality based on your feedback.

If you need guidance to navigate the Lens and utilise its many different features, please visit our Support Center to check out the latest tutorials or contact us at support@lens.org with your queries/comments.
