The Terms of Use below outline permissions associated with use of The Lens Patent API. For all requests of API access, we ask that you inform us of your use case, affiliation, and project timeline. With complete information, users can expect a 14 day free trial access to evaluate the API and see if it suits their needs. For continued or higher API volume access, the Lens asks that users apply to become members in the Lens Cooperative to customise your Lens API requirements based on your needs. The API service is a paid service and part of the Lens Cooperative.

We realise there will always be cases that are in a grey area. If you feel your use case needs to be considered in a different way, please contact us to discuss options.

Terms of Use:

Upon requesting access to the API, you agree to be bound by these terms. Cambia reserves the right to not grant access to and use of the Lens Patent API or to revoke access if in our own estimation, the specific usage does not comply with these terms. Cambia and The Lens reserve the right to negotiate variations to these Terms of Use on a case-by-case basis. These terms are effective from December 15, 2020 and are subject to change at any time upon publication of the change on the Lens site. Your Lens Patent API access may not be transferred, sold or re-licensed to third parties and may not be used in unfair or deceptive practices.

To request access, please sign in, select either the Trial or the Custom Access option, and complete the API request form. For this service, it is important that you provide accurate information about yourself, organisation(s) you are affiliated with, your intended use of the data, duration of your project, and how you will comply with the Lens Terms of Use. Once you submit the request, you will receive a confirmation notification by email that your request has been received. Your request will be reviewed and processed manually and once approved, you will get another email with instructions on how to generate API tokens. To speed up the access process, please ensure you provide accurate information in the request form, read and understand the Terms of Use, and let us know how you intend to comply with them.

API Access Plans:

Under this plan, individuals or organisations are entitled to request trial access to the patent API for non-commercial or limited academic use. Once approved, you will be able to generate an API token and access the API and data under the Acceptable Use and Attribution terms and conditions that are detailed in the Lens general Terms of Use. Please review these terms before using the API.

Member | Custom Access

This is a paid access plan and is intended for a wide range of public or private institutions and companies who require a higher level of API access or continued access, automated downloads, integration or commercial use. In conjunction with the Lens general Terms of Use, the use of the API here may be governed by a contractual agreement between Cambia, representing the Lens, and the organisation.

Please select Upgrade your Access and complete the API request form or contact us directly for further information or trial access.
